Grackle from Entropic Loop is an eurorack three-operator phase modulation synthesis voice, a synthesis method more commonly referred to as FM synthesis. Features

  • 3 operator FM (phase modulation) synthesis with a unique, just-intonation-based approach to setting modulator ratios that uses the harmonic series

  • 3 operator configurations (algorithms):

    • ADD: Both MOD operators are added together and used to modulate the phase of the carrier

    • MUL: Both operators are multiplied together before being run through a 7-stage triangular wavefolder

    • CASCADE: MOD1 operator modulates the phase of MOD2 operator, MOD2 then modulates the phase of the carrier

  • Built-in VCA envelope with 3 modes:

    • TRIGGERED: Envelope is triggered on a rising edge to the gate input

    • ASYMEMETRIC SLEW: Envelope follows the state of the gate input

    • CYCLING: Continuous cycling while gate is high

  • Individual, audio-rate CV control over modulator intervals, modulator depth, pitch, interval denominator, algorithm type, and envelope growth and decay

  • Additional AC-coupled "ActualFM" input for true, through-zero FM

  • Dedicated envelope and mod oscillator outputs; useful for modulating external modules, patch programming new modulation paths, and complex feedback possibilities.
